1. Yawning often: Yawning is usually triggered by being tired but it can also be caused by shallow breathing or a shortness of breath, especially if you have health problems or are overweight.
2. Grinding your teeth in your sleep: "Breathing incorrectly often accompanies tooth grinding because both are symptoms of stress," says Alan Dolan.
3. Tight neck and shoulders: Up to 80% of us are upper chest breathers, which means instead of taking deep breaths, we’re shallow breathing, which causes the muscles in the neck, shoulders and back to overcompensate, tightening up to allow the body to breathe deeper so the lungs get more air.
4. Always feeling tired: "This is one of the most common consequences of incorrect breathing and would indicate that you’re not accessing enough of the respiratory system," says Alan.
